LATIMER BRAND 💡⚡️💡

Lewis Latimer was a Black engineer and patent draftsman who worked with Thomas Edison to help patent the lightbulb, and Latimer the company is a startup offering funding and networking for atypical and BIPOC entrepreneurs. One of the company’s goals is to honor Lewis Latimer’s legacy by encouraging Black entrepreneurship and creativity. Latimer came to Adjy for help creating a brand for their growing company. Below are some of the brand directions I pitched to the Latimer team, as well as some assets created once a final brand direction had been selected.
I used images of Latimer himself along with graphic elements suggestive of data and experimentation. The sketches in this gif are taken from Latimer’s real engineering sketches, and the house is Latimer’s former home in New York. I tried to collage and edit these different pieces into something that feels alive and intriguing, even though I was limited in terms of photography and other assets.
